In
May, 1993, while lifting a stereo unit out of a car, I fell on concrete
on my right buttocks. Three hours later, a searing pain traveled
down my right leg and after three days, attacked my lower and mid
back and buttocks. So began a nine-month journey to family doctors,
osteopaths, chiropractors, physical therapists and neurosurgeons.
Although each was competent in their field and I tried a regimen
of back exercises and moderate doses of anti-inflammatory medicines,
I did not get better. Even though x-rays and CAT scans revealed
two moderate bulging discs, surgery was not indicated. My mood soured
and the pain became unrelenting.
As a last resort, and with the support of my primary care physician,
I became a patient at the Stanford University Medical Center Pain
Management Service. In February, 1994 I had my first appointment
at Stanford. Dr. William Brose, the Director of the Clinic, was
assigned to my case. During a three-hour consultation, Dr. Brose
examined me thoroughly and inquired in depth about the situation.
Dr. Brose explained that I had a disease called chronic pain. Although
there was no cure for chronic pain, relief could be obtained through
an appropriate pain management program. With Dr. Brose’s guidance
a pain management program was developed which included: (1) physical
therapy; (2) psychological evaluation and therapy to learn pain
management skills; (3) appropriate medication and (4) a goal phase.
As the cornerstone of my program, the goal phase required me to
set and reach vocational, recreational, social, exercise and pain/management
goals on a daily and weekly basis. Within two months the results
were dramatic. My pain decreased significantly and I resumed living
a normal life.
During this time I
developed an avid interest in complementary medicine. I found that
using holistic health and alternative medicine techniques enhanced
my treatment at Stanford. Thus, I was amazed that I could relieve
pain through self-hypnosis and acupressure. I then pursued a course
of study in holistic health at the World School of Massage and Advanced
Healing Arts in San Francisco, which eventually lead to my certification
as a Holistic Health Counselor.
Recognizing there were
so many people in the world with back and sciatica pain, I decided
to write a book which combined the best elements of the Stanford
Pain Management Program and my over 600 hours of education in holistic
health and alternative medicine. A uniform format was developed
to make the explanation of each pain relieving technique easy and
understandable. That format established: (1) what the pain relieving
technique was; (2) why it worked and (3) how was it accomplished.
I also felt people in pain needed a program to follow. The book
contains three such programs modeled after the Stanford goal therapy
program. Two audio CDs, narrated by
my co-author Christine Opie, walk readers through many of the mental
and physical means of pain relief.
Managing pain with
physical and mental means is a concept that works. Since adopting
pain management as a way of life, I live relatively pain free and
am able to live a full life not limited by pain.
For a further explanation
of pain management concepts and programs, why pain management works
in relieving pain, and the causes and remedies for chronic back
pain, I urge you to read the Foreword written
by Dr. Brose.
I also recommend you read the sections following this letter.
They explain why the
book and 2 CDs may relieve your pain, set forth the pain relieving
techniques you will learn, and state the praise the book - CD package
has received from readers and professionals in the pain management
field. Please also visit the Pain Relief
Center. That section contains a discussion of pain relieving
products which I have successfully used for pain relief including
the Thermotex heating pads which I highly recommend.
I feel so strongly
about the concept of pain management and the materials in the book
and on the CDs, that I am offering them at my own risk. There is
an unconditional money back guarantee on the book-CD package and
all products discussed in the Pain Relief
Center. If you are dissatisfied, return them within 30 days
in saleable condition and your money will be refunded.
The cost of the book
- 2 audio CD package is only $30.00 including shipping and handling.
This is truly a bargain in view of the content, which represents
hundreds of hours of research, practical experience with and treatment
for chronic back pain by some of the best doctors in the world and
cutting edge pain relief techniques from alternative medicine. If
you are in pain, or know of someone in pain, I strongly urge you
to order.
In closing, I hope
those of you in pain choose to take action to resolve your back
or sciatica pain. Remember, if you are not satisfied, there is a
money back guarantee. All you have to lose is your pain.
Sincerely,
Bob Miller
